technical info and getting in NOT !

Post by Ken » Sat Mar 14, 2020 10:56 am

Hi,

Nice to see repeater streaming again. Re technical info. I was going to have a go at getting in on 70cms.
I note it shows >>> 437MHz Digital 2Ms/s FEC1/2 (Vertical polarisation on 70cm)
I "think" its DVB-S but not absolutley certain as the tech page doesnt say.
Then noticed on BATC streamer , under the YT stream is " DVB-S "
So I did 10watts on DVB-s 2Ms at 1/2 fec into my WHITE STICK but no luck down here ( next to J36 M1)
Birdwell Barnsley. From my roof. I can see the whole of Emley tower and the hillside ground its standing on.
I then tried more OOMPH , 20 watts but again no joy.
All attempts at getting in using my beam and 40 watts on 23cm have no effect.
By the way, I cannot see YT live off air.
Is there any future plans to change the SR to 1Ms as I see suggestion on BATC that this is "possibly" going to be the recommend SR ?

Hi Ken

Thanks for the information and update...

I'll do some tests over the weekend and see what I get from here.

We have some new preamps to go in during the spring, although probably sooner if there are receive problems to look into. As regards the 1Ms update - I have just got the Portsdown software and a RPi to play with so its something I am actively looking at, although it won't be implemented for a while. I would give plenty of notice before any changes.

Hi again Ken

Just done some VERY quick tests with some fixed levels from home. I am quite close (only 2 miles), but it gives a quick idea if things are working...

70cm - Indeed appears to be not working at all. Tried 1W and nothing, so that needs investigating (yes it is currently DVB-S). :(

23cm analogue - opens YT squelch with a poor picture at 75mW - could be better and the new preamps should help. We have to be careful with this one, as the on site CCTV causes problems if too much gain. :|

23cm Digital - full good picture at 54mW so appears to be working. :)

My TX levels are measured at the TX output, therefore the levels at the antenna will be lower after the lengthy cable run I have.

Thanks for the heads up - We'll investigate ASAP.

Great work ..Thanks for the repairs to 70 cm input. Also the addition of 5.6ghz input. Interesting news.
Once ive tidied up this hell of a shack mess Ill have a go on 437.
